How to Start It
★ Recommended for beginners
The easiest, fastest route. In early spring, set out dormant bare-root crowns with the centre growing bud right at soil level — too deep rots, too shallow dries out. Space them about 30 cm apart. Everbearer types fruit their first summer.
Everbearers fruit the first year; June-bearers the following year. Pin down runners through summer to make free new plants.
When To Start
First Chance to Plant
Early spring, about 2 weeks before your last frost (set out crowns)
Last Chance to Plant
Early spring (mild areas can also plant in late summer)

Planting & Sprouting
Growing Tips
- 1Plant crowns so the centre bud sits right at soil level — too deep rots, too shallow dries out.
- 2Mulch with straw to keep berries off the soil and pinch off the first runners so the plant builds roots before it spreads.
- 3Refresh the bed with new runners every 3 years as old plants tire.

How to Harvest
- 1Pick berries when they are fully red right to the shoulders.
